Chariot Path is a lovely place high up on a mountain near the Piduruthalagala range in Sri Lanka. My friends Sithul, Gayan, and I decided to go camping there overnight. We thought more friends would join us, but in the end, it was just us three. We left early in the morning at 4 am on April 27th, riding our motorcycles.

Our trip took us through Kegalle, Gampola, and Pussellawa. When we got close to Pussellawa around 7:30 am, we stopped for some rotis at a small restaurant. Then we picked up food and other things we needed for our camping from the small shops in Pussellawa. We expected a big town, but it was actually a small place with no big supermarkets.

After that, we continued to Chariot Path. We parked our motorcycles at a shop inside an old hospital building, which had CCTV, so it felt safe to leave them there. Then we started our hike. First, we walked through a tea plantation and then into a forest. I didn’t expect that we would have to climb a mountain, but we did, and after walking 2 km through the forest, we reached the top around 2 pm. At first, the place looked average, but it got really beautiful later. We set up our camp, and around 5 pm, a thick mist covered everything. It looked magical, and we took lots of photos and videos.

For dinner, we made noodles and BBQ sausages, and enjoyed some drinks. Later, Gayan made a bonfire from the leftover charcoal, and we sat around it, chatting and enjoying the night. After that, we went back to our tent for more noodles before going to sleep.

The next morning, Sithul woke us up early to see the sunrise, which was beautiful. We took our phones and cameras to get a better view. For breakfast, Sithul made dhal curry and salmon sambal, which we had with bread.

After cleaning up, we packed everything and hiked down the mountain. We got back to our motorcycles around noon and headed back through Pussellawa. We also stopped to get strawberries and a local sweet called Kithul Hakuru on the way. Later, we visited a relative of Gayan’s and had lunch. Then we went to see the old temple ruins at Kothmale Reservoir.

We got home late at around 1 am, tired but happy with all the beautiful memories and pictures from our trip. This adventure to Chariot Path was a wonderful experience in nature.
